New Garden Image site

 Encyclopedia

Well it took me a long time but I finally got a few pages up.
I'd like to know what you think.
I don't have a comment page set up yet, but you can leave the comments here for now.
The image on the main page is a digital watercolor I created using Painter X.
I'm hoping to upgrade to the new version before the end of the year.

Now in my new Encyclopedia you will find more information on individual plants.
When possible, links to a source is added also.
The main page layout will also change when I have an index set up.
Now the pages will be smaller to make it possible for those using mobile devices to view the full page without having to scroll down.
So if I have too much to fit the small frame it will go on a second page.

Something else you might like, no banner ads on any of these pages.

Cherry Rose Helianthus

Sunflower
Sunflowers are easy to grow and there are lots of varieties to choose from.
The seeds do not always match the photos on the packets.
I found a variety called Cherry Rose from the Ontario Seed Company.
This is a pollen-free variety popular with florists.
What grew out of mine, is more likely to be from the Fantasia Hybrid Mix (See photo).

I got another packet this year.
I'm hoping, that this time, they will be the actual Cherry Rose variety.

New details pages

I finally found a way to include more information with the photos. You may have noticed that I have been changing the index links to details. This allows me to add more. So far I only have Red Blizzard , Bella Regal and Barbe Bleue But now that I have a template to work with, the rest should be easier.

I will be adding pages for the White and Blue Blizzards soon. I also started 24 pelargoniums from seeds in Jiffy pots and propagated those I grow as houseplants.

Update: I now use Joomla to manage my site. The photos are larger so you can see more details. The menu makes it easier for you to find what you are looking for. The front page is updated almost every day during the growing season. If you have any questions, a contact link is part of the menu.

Pelargonium Peltatum Red Blizzard

Ivy Pelargonium

Name: Fisblizdark sold under variety name Dark Red Blizzard. Trailing pelargonium also called ivy geraniums. (Joanne McKinnon)
Finally found the name of my lovely rich red pelargonium.
I was flipping through Geraniums and Pelargoniums by John Feltwell and recognized the name of the variety sold in local nurseries here.

Last year I bought a Pink Blizzard from Loblaws.
The red was given to me by a gardener that doesn't keep records.
Now that I have a name, I like it even more.

Salpiglossis Sinuata

Seed Starting

I've started a Salpiglossis Sinuata from Thompson and Morgan's Casino Mixed F1 before.
They also offer Kew Blue which I'm trying next for my own garden.

P.S: Lost seedling when my attention was needed elsewhere.
Will try again.
