Options

I am now researching Self-Publishing portals for a photo book.
Right now, Blurb is at the top of the list for a print edition.

Amazon offers Kindle Direct Publishing and for printed books Create Space, which does not rate well for photo books.
But the marketing possibilities would be hard to beat.
I have a few Digital Photography books in Kindle editions and they look amazing.
The advantage with them is that the Kindle free Reading Apps can be installed on most devices.


Now Kobo is about to launch its own version called Kobo Writing Life: Publishing.
Since I read fiction books on a Kobo, I'm looking forward to seeing their options.

Blurb does offer an ebook option for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.
They are working on adding options for more devices.
When I shop for books and magazines, I always check first for a digital version.

Wenlock English Rose

English Roses

I pride myself for nailing shots in camera, most of the time.
For the Wenlock (See photo) I tried early morning, cloudy days, just before sunset.
None of them turned out exactly like I wanted.
If you check the photo of this rose in the Botanica roses you can see that this rose presents a challenge.
The colour either glows or is too dark.
The photo used on the David Austin Roses site is a bit too dark and doesn't bring out the shade's subtle changes.

Fortunately,this rose blooms often throughout the season.
This gave me a chance to try different methods.
But even this shot wasn't quite right.
I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 7for editing and with the photo filters, I was able to reduce the glow.
But you need to see it up close to appreciate the colour.

Too bad I can't enter this photo in the David Austin's US Garden Rose competition Its not open to residents living north of the border.

Tussock Moth (Halysidota Tessellaris), (See Photo) that is the name I found it under in
Les insectes du Quebec

Caught this little guy munching on the leaves of a crab apple.
Couldn't resist taking a photo before moving him.
At the time, I didn't know if it would change into a butterfly or a moth, so no soapy water treatment.
